ANGT 2016 RECAP V - BC ZALGIRIS KAUNAS
Arnas Velicka: Good sized and athletic, one of top 99' PG in Europe showed his skills and also the room of improvement on his game. Really good ball handler with both hands sometimes abuse of his bounce hoarding too much game time and slowing the tempo, has to improve on his bounce selection to be a better playmaker. Very good dribbling skills in 1x1 from outside to both sides being a better finisher in right side even he has quality to finish also with left hand, has to be more consistent in his toughness in finishing and use his IQ to take fouls as he does. Good court vision plus passing skills being one of the few PG in his age able to over bounce passing with both hands, on penetrations dominates the kick out to corners. To be an excelent passer needs to improve the execution because sometimes the ball goes down for shooters. On P&R possesses good game concepts, able to take advantage in penetrations, assist to continuations or find open man. Good range in outside shooting, is really inconsistent and streaky yet, could improve his shooting selection after bounce to raise his % and confidence. Also could add mid range shot after bounce to his skills to be more complete. On defense has very good footwork on lateral movement, good 1x1 outside defender could be more consistent in his contact level to be more decisive, on P&R defense is a good up defender due his footwork and acceptable arms activity. Involved in defensive rebounds.
Gytis Masiulis: Gytis had impressive performance during the tournament, leaded Zalgiris in points, rebounds and efficiency. Is a very mobile PF, in some moments seems like a potential future combo forward. In offense is very complete: skilled in low post 1x1 with good footwork and an excellent use of pump fakes, able to finish with both hands and really comfortable in contact game although his lack of leaping ability always is able to find the way to score or take fouls. Born fighter spirit to second, third or more efforts in offensive rebound adding second chance points. Good screener in P&R game, in roll or pop continuations. Also is able to play face to the basket but has to continue improving his ball handling to be really decisive in those actions. Isn't a pure shooter but showed a nice release in catch & shot from wing and corners. His high IQ and game intensity allows him to be always active in off ball with good spacing and cuts from high post and baseline. On defense is a pesky defender in low post 1x1, with good contact level and feet activity, but suffers against bigger players. Good lateral movement in outside 1x1 and on flash P&R defense. Great defensive rebounder with a natural feeling and timing to grab the ball. The most interesting inside prospect on Lithuanian team.
Lukas Uleckas: All around 99' player able to make SG/SF positions. Good athleticism being fast on his footwork and solid on contact game. On offense very good three point shooter, from every position in catch & shot and also able to create his own shot on bounce actions. Good ball handler and dribbling skills with both hands on 1x1 from outside, showed hardness in contact penetrations being able to finish or/and take fouls. Feels really comfortable on transition game finish. Nice passing skills and court vision assisting to off ball cuts from wings. On defense very good attitude and activity, especially using his quick hands to steal balls on bounce actions. Good footwork and arms activity on P&R up defense.
Ignas Sargiunas:Complete game for 99' prospect, Ignas is a good outside shooter emphasizing in catch & shot from wings and corners. Uses his speed to be a good finisher in fast transition and fast breaks. On static game is able to play P&R with guaranties due his good ball handling, splitting and taking advantage on penetrations, could improve is passing skills and selection to be more decisive on those actions. In general is a proper passer with low turnovers ratio. On defense showed aggressive on passing lines stealing and running. Good attitude in on and off ball defense.
