ANGT 2016 RECAP IV - INSEP PARIS
Sekou Doumbouya: In my opinion the most impressive 00' prospect in the tournament. Sekou is a 2.05 able to play as SG, very good athleticism with strong lower body and great leaping ability. In offense is skilled, acceptable outside shooter from wings and corners in catch & shot could be more consistent and sometimes his shot selection is improvable. Good ball handler with right hand is very vertical and tough in finishing, dunking hard if the help defense is late. Has to be more deeper in his first left bounce in penetration, avoiding turning to play back and fade away shot that is his resource in left side. Able to finish with both hands in fast transition. Good passing skills in outside rotation, has to avoid his turnovers in penetration passes and bounce actions. On defense has good lateral movement, being able to guard PG's in some moments, but has to be more consistent in his defensive effort because sometimes seems disconnected in outside 1x1 after ball rotation. Acceptable ball stealer in pass lines, also is acceptable in defensive rebounds where he has room of improvement to be really a force in the paint. Clearly future NBA first round material, if he works harder has time to be a top 10 pick.
Jaylen Hoard: Great athleticism, very fast and agile for his size. Has to improve his upper body strength to be more decisive. In offense is a very good ball handler with both hands especially with right hand, uses his good first step to both sides penetrations dominating right hand lay up finish. Needs to be tougher in finishing because of his athleticism, the impression is that he would be able to dunk almost every penetration, but tends to finish fading the contact being less effective. Good outside shooter, especially in catch & shot from wings. Also is a good mid range shooter after bounce sometimes could improve his pump fake and shot selection. Active offensive rebounder from weak side, adds second chance points. Good passing skills in static game, has to control his turnovers improving his penetration passing, especially in kick out to weak side. In defense uses his wingspan to be a good ball stealer in pass lines, good lateral movement in 1x1 from outside has to raise his contact level to be more tough. Could be more focused in box out, sometimes trust only in his leaping ability to rebound. Future NCAA player, as Eric Vila, has very good potential but has to take the next step in his contact level to be a future NBA first rounder.
Bathiste Tchouaffe: Good athleticism and acceptable explosiveness. Tchouaffe was the best scorer for INSEP in the tournament. Solid three point shooter with quick release in catch & shot, especially from wings, showed he's a streaky shooter who sometimes could improve his shooting selection to keep high percentages. Good ball handler with right hand, has to improve his left hand skills in dribbling and finishing to be less predictable in penetrations, showed nice ball touch in finishing with his dominant hand. Also has good passing skills and court vision, able to find teammates in off ball cuts and plays fluently in outside ball rotation. On defense is very aggressive in pass lines, stealing balls and finishing fast breaks. Acceptable 1x1 outside defender with good lateral movement, has to learn to control his intensity and be less visceral to avoid foul troubles.
Olivier Sarr: Former SF reconverted to PF. Very good size and wingspan, has to bulk up to be able to compete in higher level, also has good athleticism being fast for his size. In offense is able to play face to the basket, dominating to right side and from high post is an acceptable passer in high-low situations. On low post needs to develop his skills and footwork in 1x1, for now tends to finish with fade away shots so has to raise his contact level. Also has to be more consistent in his toughness finishing and after offensive rebounds, had some good dunks but when he finished in lay ups suffered in contact. On defense possesses good lateral movement for his size, able to guard PF's from high post. But suffered in low post and box out against heavier players, needs to work his upper body strength and knees position to be more decisive.
